Old Nun's Rooms

Originally part of the old presbytery, the nun's rooms took on their present form in around 1880 when the present sanctuary took shape.  They were created partially for the parish's confraternities to use as meeting rooms.

Above and to either side of the sanctuary, two galleries are visible.  Each is composed of three decorative archways with windows leading into rooms.  These lead into the "nun's rooms"

In the days when the community of nuns lived in the parish and taught at St. Austin's school, these rooms were in constant use.  The nuns would hear mass from the secluded chambers.

The rooms both afford excellent views of the sanctuary and even the body of the church.  They are accessed via the spiral staircase which leads up from the parish rooms and the back of the sacristy.

Since the nuns left the parish the rooms have been used by various of the different parish groups for a number of activities.

They are now used for stoarge purposes.
