Aims: SVP is a national & international organisation of lay people seeking to follow Christ’s example by working with those in need. St. Austin’s Conference meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month at 7.30pm in the rooms for prayer, organising the work and supporting each other. Belonging to the SVP involves: · Spirituality To help others to serve Our Lord, to bring Him to others and to encounter Him ourselves in this process. · Visiting the sick and housebound in hospital, in their homes and in residential homes. · Supporting people in any kind of need and using the SVPs considerable resources both locally and nationally, to help them. The first steps are always visiting and befriending. · Supporting our SVP brothers and sisters overseas: St. Austin’s SVP is twinned with two parishes in India and one in the Sudan. Money we send goes directly to local Catholics. · Almsgiving and fundraising. There is a collection at each meeting for the work of the Society. We also organise parish collections. Anyone wishing to support SVP mainly by almsgiving can become a Friend of St. Vincent de Paul. · Working with others: with SVP brothers and sisters in the Wakefield and Pontefract SVP District, the Leeds SVP area and nationally, as well as with other Christians in organisations like the Community Awareness Programme and the Pinderfields’ Ecumenical Chaplaincy team. Meeting: Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the parish rooms. |
