St Augustine
Windows

A modern addition to the Lady Chapel, the Stained Glass windows were introduced at the end of 1992.  In a special ceremony in January 1993, the windows were dedicated to the memory of Monsignor Henry Thompson, parish priest between 1944 and 1986, on the second anniversary of his death.  The guest of honour who performed the dedication was Fr Paul Varey, Monsignor's grand-nephew

The windows are the work of  local artist Steve Simpson. They depict the church's patron, St Augustine, who was sent to England in 596 by Gregory the Great in order to convert the natives.  The left hand window shows St Augustine as a monk in Rome, while the second shows him as Archbishop of Canterbury
