War Plaque

Between the repository shop and the priest's plaque is a memorial plaque to the many Saint Austin's Parishioners who gave their lives in the two World Wars.

Unveiled in a ceremony in 2000 by the then Mayor Norman Hazell, the plaque supplements the Calvary Memorial to the fallen in the First World War which stands outside the church.  The names on that memorial are no longer visible due to wear.

Two parishioners are undertaking projects to catalogue the lives of many of these servicemen and, when available, details will be posted here.

In a spring cleaning session in late 2000 an old copy of St Michael's College magazine was unearthed which contains an obituary to one of these servicemen, Walter Kitson.

If you have details of any St Austin's parishioners who gave their lives in the war and would like them added to this page and/or to the projects currently underway please do not hesitate to get in touch.
