The Windows

The main windows of the church are plain glass and unremarkable in nature.  It seems that earlier in the church's history, stained glass windows may have been in place and were dedicated to deceased relatives of the patrons.  At some time in the past, however, the stained glass made way for ordinary plain glass.

The church windows have been a prime target for vandals.  In the riots of 1862
it is reported that almost every window on the Wentworth Terrace side of the building were broken and had to be replaced.

Above the main windows of the church are a series of smaller round porthole type windows, almost unnoticeable from ground level.  These windows are decorated alternately with the letters SJ and SA.  The latter obviously refers to St Austin, the patron of the church, while the former refers to the Society of Jesus, which founded the church and ran it for over a hundred years.

The main stained glass windows to be found in the church are recent additions depicting St Augustine himself.  These are to be found in the Lady Chapel.
